Roddy Named One of 10 Finalists For Karl Malone Award

The Minneapolis, Minn. junior is in the running for the award for the nation's best power forward
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State David Roddy was named to the Karl Malone Award Watch List's Top 10 finalists, announced today by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Orignially one of 20 named to the initial watch list, this honor recognizes the top power forward in men's college basketball and is now down to its 10 finalists.
A 2021 First-Team NABC All-District and All-Mountain West selection as well as a 2021-22 preseason All-MW pick, Roddy has continued to grow throughout the season. Roddy leads the Rams in scoring (18.58 ppg) and rebounding (7.74 rpg), ranking fifth and sixth in the Mountain West, respectively. He has posted two 30+ point games, including a career-high 36 points with a career-best 7 3-points in the USVI Paradise Jam semifinals against Creighton. After leading the Rams to a comeback victory in the championship, Roddy was named the tournament's MVP after, in three games, averaging 31.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 70.2 percent (33-of-47) from the floor, 53.3 percent (8-of-15) on 3s and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the charity stripe.
Roddy has five double-doubles on the year and 19 in his career. This season, he has led the Rams in scoring 11 times, rebounding 12 times and assists on six occasions. He became the 31st Ram to reach 1,000 points in his CSU career and is currently 16th in career scoring with 1,164 points and 16th in rebounds with 589.
Karl Malone attended Louisiana Tech University due to its close proximity to his hometown of Summerfield, Louisiana. He led the Bulldogs to a Sweet 16 appearance and earned All-Southland honors in his three seasons while averaging 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Playing all but one season with the Utah Jazz, Malone achieved great success during his 19 seasons in the NBA as a 14-time NBA All-Star (1988-98, 2000-02), 11-time All-NBA First Team player (1989-99) and a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. He also won two Olympic gold medals (1992, 1996).
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. The 10 players at this point on the list for the 2022 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to 10 and then in late February to just 5. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.
The winner of the 2022 Karl Malone Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Bob Cousy Point Guard Award (junior Isaiah Stevens is also a finalist for this), Jerry West Shooting Guard Award, the Julius Erving Small Forward Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center Award, in addition to the Women's Starting Five.
