Divers produce six placings over the three days at AFA
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The platform isn't something Colorado State's divers can practice on, not without a tower available to them in the area and just a low set up for them to use at Moby Pool. So competing it is always a bit of a refresher course, which is what the Rams had Saturday, the final day of the Air Force Diving Invitational at the Cadet Natatorium.
Â
The positive was two of the Rams reached the finals, giving them two runs at their five-dive sets on the day.
Â
It required a couple of performers to scratch out of the finals, but Jozie Meitz and Kate Leonard took advantage, placing 11th and 12th, respectively, in the event.
Â
"I thought the platform went well for us," CSU diving coach Chris Bergere said. "For Jozie and Kate, getting to dive again in the finals is great practice and good for the competition mindset. They were both consistent and courageous."
Â
Meitz scored a 185.50 in the preliminary round, then came back with a 179.50 in the finals. Leonard scored a 188.70 in the prelims, coming back at 171.80. Also in the preliminaries, Jessica Albanna scored a 182.65 to finish 16th, while Braeden Shaffer was 19th at 176.90.
Â
Overall, the squad had six divers place on the three boards over three days, with Lindsay Gizzi placing in the top eight on both springboards, and Meitz and Leonard placing in both the 1-meter and platform.
Â
"I was really proud of our divers," Bergere said. "I truly think we will score major points toward our team total at the Mountain West Championships."
Â
Colorado State's women's swimming and diving team will compete in the championships at College Station, Texas, from Feb. 16-19.
