Roddy, Stevens, Medved Earn All-District Honors

Junior forward David Roddy was honored on the USBWA District Player of the Year and First Team by the USBWA and NABC, junior guard Isaiah Stevens was recognized on the USBWA second team and Niko Medved was named USBWA District Coach of the Year

­FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State juniors David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens and head coach Niko Medved continued their national recognition by various basketball organizations. Roddy was honored on the US Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District Player of the Year and First Team by the USBWA and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), junior guard Isaiah Stevens was recognized on the NABC Second Team and Niko Medved was named USBWA District Coach of the Year
 
Roddy has earned several awards so far this year, as was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press, Third Team All-American from Sports Illustrated as well as Mountain West Player of the Year and First Team All-Mountain West in polls from both the coaches and league media. Just the third conference player of the year pick in CSU history joining Gian Clavell (2017-MW) and Mike Mitchell (1990-WAC), Roddy earned the consensus honors from both the media and the coaches' separate selections. Also a finalist for the Wooden and Malone awards, the Minneapolis, Minn., native finished third in the league in conference scoring at 19.4 points per game, sixth in rebounding at 7.6 and first in field goal percentage at 57.4 percent. He was also 13th with 2.8 assists per game, eighth in blocks at 1.1 and 17th in minutes at 32.7 per contest. He became the 31st player in CSU history to reach 1,000 career points and is currently ninth with 1,393 points. He has seven double-doubles on the year and was named the USVI Paradise Jam MVP after averaging 31.0 points per game in leading CSU to the title with wins over Bradley, Creighton and Northeastern. During that tournament he had two 30+ point games, including a career-high 36 against Creighton.
 
In league play, he was sixth in scoring at 19.06 points per game, fifth in rebounding at 7.61, first in field goal percentage at 56.6 percent from the floor and 12th with 3.06 assists per contest. He had a high of 31 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field along with nine rebounds and three steals in the win at New Mexico in his first game in The Pit. He scored in double figures in 17 of 18 league games, including nine of 20 or more. Recently, he had a game-high 23 points, four rebounds and two assists in a home win over league champion Boise State to sweep the season series with the Broncos. He was also named to the Mountain West Championship All-Tournament team for his play in CSU's two contests.
 
Stevens, a Second-Team All-Mountain West selection from both the league media and coaches, was among the most notable players in the league again, ranking 12th in scoring at 14.93, tops in free throw percentage at 90.2, third in assists at 4.77, second in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.75 and sixth in minutes with 34.84 per game. He reached the 1,000-point mark in his career during the season and is currently in 11th with 1,301 points. He ranks second all-time in assists with 434 and an average of 4.9 per game in his career. He earned All-Tournament Honors at the USVI Paradise Jam after helping guide CSU to the tournament title. With is 3.51 in communication studies, Stevens was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team Feb. 17.
 
In Mountain West action, the guard from Allen, Texas was 12th in scoring at 15.11 points per game, eighth in assists with 3.61, tops in free throw percentage at 91.8 percent, fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.10 and eighth in minutes played. He also scored in double figures in 17 contests with a career-high 35 points and eight rebounds at home against UNLV.
 
Led by Medved who was selected for the USBWA honor for the second consecutive year, this CSU squad recorded 25 wins in the regular season, tied for the third most in a single season, while the 14 conference wins ties the school record set by last year's team. The Rams were 14-1 at home this year, playing in front of a school-record five consecutive sellouts to end the regular season and a Mountain West era record for attendance. For the season, CSU led in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio. Medved is currently 77-45 in his four years in Fort Collins, including three postseason invitations.
 
The Rams make their first appearance in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship since 2013 when the South Region's No. 6 seed CSU takes on No. 11 seed Michigan on Thursday. Tip-off time at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis is set for 10:15 am MT on CBS.
