Keller Becomes CSU’s First-Ever Mountain West Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The cherry on top to wrap up a successful indoor season was placed Thursday by the Mountain West in its announcement of Lexie Keller earning the MW Women's Indoor Student-Athlete of the Year award – the first of its kind for the Colorado State track and field program.
The latest award is the second CSU first in as many weeks as she was the first Ram to earn last week's USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year award. The accolades add to her list that also includes NCAA First Team All-America honors and an All-Mountain West nod. In all, Keller is just the third overall Ram to earn the conference's student-athlete of the year honor joining Eric Hamer (2020 indoor, 2021 outdoor) and Mostafa Hassan (2017-18 indoor, 2016 outdoor) from the men's side.
Keller, of Albuquerque, N.M., concluded her season with a third-place finish in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, which was the highest finish among any Mountain West female student-athlete across all events. She scored 4,321 points to reestablish her own school record and moved to second all-time in the conference.
In the Mountain West Championships to help the women capture their fifth title in program history, Keller contributed 13 points to the team score from a second-place pent finish and a fourth-place 60-meter hurdle showing.
At the season's end, Keller finds herself on five CSU indoor top-20 lists with four marks coming from these past few months. The new marks include fifth in the 55-meter hurdle, seventh in the 60mH, seventh in the long jump and the pentathlon record.
Within the USTFCCCA Mountain Region, she concluded in the top 15 in pentathlon, long jump, high jump and 60m hurdles. The USTFCCCA Mountain Region consists of 20 teams ranging from the Big 12, Pac 12, Big Sky, Conference USA, Mountain West, and WAC.
