The sophomore from Sweden holds a 3-shot lead heading into tomorrow's final round, as the Rams moved up a spot in the second round
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – As the winds continued to blow in Norther California, Colorado State maintained solid composure and moved up to sixth after the second round of the 75th annual Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf and Titleist Monday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by San Jose State University, is being played at the renowned Pasatiempo Golf Club (Par 70 – 6,615 yards) in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Â
Due to the steady but gusting winds and tough course conditions, the second round was not completed as there were still two players left on the course. However, Colorado State took advantage of being in the early wave of the unique play-six, count-five format and recorded a 22-over 372 for a 36-hole total of 52-over 752. No. 9 Texas leads at 27-over 727 after a tournament-low 6-over 356 in the second round. No. 8 Pepperdine is second at 31-over 731, with San Diego State in third at 44-over 744. No. 6 Washington is tied for fourth at 49-over with two players left to finish the 18th hole, while No. 30 Arizona has completed its second round at 49-over.
Â
Sophomore Rasmus Hjelm continued at the top of the leaderboard, shooting a 1-under 69 on the second day to post a 1-under 139 and hold a three-shot lead heading into the final round. Junior Connor Jones is tied for 18th at 8-over 148 after a second-round 2-over 72. Senior Davis Bryant and freshman Christoph Bleier are tied for 49th at 15-over 155, with redshirt-freshman Gavin Hagstrom tied for 61st at 16-over 156.
