Rams Announce Challenging 2022 Schedule

Colorado State will have 16 matches at Moby Arena and face eight postseason teams

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State volleyball will open the 2022 schedule at home for the 11th consecutive season with a six-match slate to start, beginning on August 26 with the annual White Out match against North Carolina.

"Our 2022 schedule will be difficult, but it is manageable," head coach Tom Hilbert said. "It will keep our attention; it will test us, and it will create environments where our players will have to get better. And that's really what you want. You don't want things to be easy."
The Rams will face eight postseason teams during 2022 regular season, six of them at Moby Arena. CSU will face five teams from the NCAA Tournament and three from the NIVC Tournament for a total of nine matches. The team will see a wide range of styles at home, hosting squads from the SEC, ACC and Pac-12.

Following the season opener and White Out, CSU will host UC Santa Barbara and Northern Colorado to finish the season-opening weekend. Colorado State will host a three-team round-robin weekend with Arkansas, FGCU and Alabama State starting on Sept. 1.

"I think we're a year better and I think we can handle a tougher schedule," Hilbert added. "It will be a challenge for us, but we need it. The Mountain West Conference has been a one-bid league for a while, and we'd like to make sure we put ourselves in a position to make the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid or the conference nomination."

The Rams will have their first road trip of the season when they head to Waco, Texas for three matches Sept. 8-10 against Baylor, Evansville and Arizona State.

Colorado State will return home for the Golden Spike Trophy series, a home-and-home against Colorado on Sept. 15 and Sept. 16 in Boulder.

CSU will begin Mountain West action at home on Sept. 20 with the Border War, followed by UNLV on Sept. 22 before the bye weekend. Colorado State will alternate weekends on the road and in Fort Collins throughout the conference slate and face eight of the 10 MW schools twice. The Rams will have their split weekend on Oct. 20 with Boise State at home before traveling to Utah State on Oct. 22 – facing each of those teams just once in 2022.

The Rams will finish the regular season on the road against Wyoming for Border War 2.0 on Nov. 15 before the finale at UNLV on Nov. 19.

The Mountain West Tournament will continue in 2022 hosted by Colorado State, Nov. 23-25 in Moby Arena.

"I think the Mountain West Tournament will be an exciting event to host," Hilbert said. "I think of all the schools in the league, we have the best fan support. Even though it's on Thanksgiving week, I think fans will come out and watch us play our final weekend at home. It's an important event with the conference bid going to the champion, so everything from the season needs to come together during those days to get us back to the NCAA Tournament."

Colorado State finished the 2021 season 19-11 overall and 14-4 in the Mountain West to capture the program's 17th Mountain West regular season title, including the fourth in the past five seasons and 11th in the past 13. The Rams made their return to the postseason, hosting the NIVC Tournament in Moby Arena. CSU will return four consistent starters from a season ago and four All-Mountain West players, including Newcomer of the Year, Annie Sullivan.
