Connor Jones is tied for the individual lead as the Rams take a two-shot lead into Saturday's second round

BREMERTON, Wash. – Colorado State got the 2022 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship off to the right start, as the Rams hold a two-shot lead after the opening round on Friday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, is being played at Gold Mountain Golf Club's Olympic Course (Par 72 – 7,115 yards) in Bremerton, Wash.

Colorado State went off in the third wave of the morning and put together a solid team effort, as the four counting scores were par or better, resulting in an 8-under 280 and a two-shot lead over No. 53 Boise State in second at 6-under 282. No. 50 San Diego State is third at 5-under 283, with No. 34 Nevada in fourth at even-par 288. Wyoming rounds out the top five after 18 holes at 2-over 290.

Junior Connor Jones is tied for the lead through the first round with Trey Davis of Nevada, as both shot 5-under 67 and are up two shots over a pair of golfers. Jones had seven birdies to just two bogeys on his round, tying his season low. Senior Davis Bryant is three shots back after a bogey-free 2-under 70, while freshman Christoph Bleier finished the day at 1-under 71 after going 2-under in his final five holes, currently tied for 11th. Sophomore Rasmus Hjelm shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 15th, while redshirt-freshman Gavin Hagstrom is tied for 35th at 3-over 75.

"The guys had a heck of a start to the weekend," head coach Christian Newton said. "I'm very proud of their effort. Tomorrow, the conditions are going to be tough and we've experienced that already this year so we should be ready. We look forward to what the rest of the weekend brings."

The event will continue on Saturday morning, with the Rams starting on No. 1 at 11 a.m. and playing with Boise State and San Diego State.
