Colorado State Ends Regular Season Successfully in California

FRESNO, Calif. – Hitting personal records or season bests is what head coach Brian Bedard wanted to see in this weekend's regular-season finale meet and that's what occurred at the Fresno State Invitational.

The Rams tallied 21 personal records including nine that registered as top-20 marks in Colorado State history. Additionally, both the men and women's 4x400-meter relay teams captured school records.

The foursome of Lauren Gale, Jessica Ozoude, Grace Goldsworthy, and Yolonda Johnson won the 4x4 relay with a 3:36.42 time, shaving 2.49 seconds off the previous school record. Gale and Ozoude were a part of the previous record squad along with Michelle Gould and Jasmine Chesson, which was obtained in 2019.

The men on the other hand broke the 4x4 record that has stood since 2014 by Washinger, Brown, Browing and Skudneski. Saturday's group of Adam Stark, DeVon Washington, Tom Willems and Jack Cauble clocked a 3:08:87, bettering the past mark by 1.61 seconds.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Yolonda Johnson cut .34 seconds off her PR to finish at 58.51. Her No. 3 spot in CSU history doesn't change, but she's now 19th in the NCAA West and strengthened her lead in the Mountain West.

The 100-meter races proved to be a highlight for both men and women. Sophomore Janyah Jasper was the runner-up in the women's side with a blistering 11.48 – good for fourth all-time in the green and gold. She leapfrogged Andrea Bush who previously held CSU's record from 1989 to 2008. Kelley Stephens was third in the men's race with a time of 10.49, jumping from 11th to sixth all-time at CSU.

Ladies in the discus (Gabi McDonald and Michaela Hawkins) along with the 100m hurdlers (Lexi Keller and Jahzara Davis) each obtained top-10 marks too.

In the twilight hour of the meet, Mariano Kis finished second in the shot put after throwing a 58'5.75'', which moved him from 13th to 11th all time.

Not PRs but two key season-best marks came from Lauren Gale and Adam Dawson. Gale won the 400 and was just .03 off her school record time in the 400 (51.96). However, the 51.99 time moved her up to fifth on this season's NCAA West Performance List. Similarly, Dawson's 187'0'' in the discus was seven inches from his PR that stands ninth all-time in the school, but the season-best throw is 17th on the west regional list.
