Dawson Earns Conference Weekly Honor with Discus Performance at West Coast Relays
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Adam Dawson was named Mountain West's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in last Friday's West Coast Relays, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Â
Dawson, a two-time NCAA All-American in the discus, finished second in the discus throw at the West Coast Relays with a distance of 186'9'', which leads the conference and ranks 12th in the NCAA West. For reference, the result is 26th among all of NCAA, however the top 48 from each event in each region (West and East) earn passage to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds (May 25th-28th).
Â
The Parker, Colo. native finished 12th last year in the NCAA Championships for a NCAA Second Team All-America nod, while he earned an NCAA Honorable Mention All-America award in 2019 after his 17th-place showing. His personal record of 187'7'' won the 2019 MW discus title and still holds the ninth spot in CSU history. This past weekend's throw of 186'9'' is the closest Dawson has come to his PR since that conference title. Â
Â
The weekly award is CSU's first outdoor honor of the season and Dawson's third in his career, joining two accolades in 2019.
Â
Next, the Rams will compete in the Colorado Invitational this weekend April 8th-9th in Boulder, Colo.
