Colorado State Adds Former No. 50 Recruit
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Kiya Dorroh, the former No. 1 recruit out of the state of Arizona in the Class of 2021, has signed to continue her basketball career with the Colorado State women's basketball program, head coach Ryun Williams announced Thursday.
Â
The 6-foot-1 guard played in 27 games this past season at Missouri, averaging 8.7 minutes per contest in her freshman year with the Tigers. She shot 29.7% (11-37) from the floor, including a 30% clip from deep and went 4-of-6 from the free throw line, which all led to a season total of 29 points or 1.1 ppg. Additionally, she pulled in 27 rebounds and notched seven steals. Her best performance as a Tiger occurred at Vanderbilt where she played 22 minutes and scored five points – both season highs. She appeared in 14 Southeastern Conference games averaging 8.2 minutes, 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.
Â
"Kiya is a very nice athlete who can impact the game in a variety of ways both offensively and defensively," Williams said. "She is a versatile guard/forward with impressive size who can rebound the ball, guard all five positions, play in transition and has a game that allows her to score at different areas on the floor."
Â
Dorroh attended AZ Compass Prep School, located in the suburbs of Phoenix, Ariz., in her final year of high school and was nationally ranked as the No. 47 overall recruit in the Class of 2021 according to ESPNW. The top-10 ranked wing player nationally chose Mizzou over North Carolina, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Texas.
Â
Prior to her time with the Prep Dragons, Dorroh attended Sabino High School in her hometown of Tucson, Ariz. As a junior at SHS, Dorroh led her team to a 28-4 overall record and the Class 3A State Championship after averaging a team-high 15.9 points to go along with 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game. She was named the Prep Girls Hoops Arizona Player of the Year and the Class 3A South Offensive Player of the Year following her junior campaign and received first team honors for Max Preps Arizona All-State and Arizona 3A All-Region.
Â
In her sophomore year, Dorroh averaged 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game despite only playing 11 games. Off the court, Dorroh was a three-time academic honor roll recipient at Sabino HS.
Â
The addition of Dorroh brings CSU's total of newcomers for 2022-23 to five with the three freshmen (Marta Leimane, Hannah Ronsiek, and Jayden Fife) and Meghan Boyd, a transfer from Denver.
