Multis have record day at Arizona Meet featuring Lexie Keller’s Heptathlon
TUCSON, Ariz. / BOULDER, Colo. – Picking up where she left off in her dominant indoor season, junior Lexie Keller won the heptathlon at the Jim Click Shootout with a school record score of 5803 Friday afternoon at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
Â
Keller, making her heptathlon season debut, not only obtained CSU's all-time top mark, but the score registered No. 2 in Mountain West history and No. 3 in the NCAA this season. The top spots ahead of her include the NCAA reigning indoor pentathlon champion Anna Hall (Florida, 6412) and Isabel Wakefield (Duke, 5850) who was seventh in the same meet. Keller finished third in last month's NCAA indoor pentathlon to garner the MW Women's Student-Athlete of the Year honor and USTFCCCA's Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the Mountain Region.Â
Â
She finished above Olivija Vaitaityte of Oklahoma State and Arizona's Sklar Sieben, the Pac-12 indoor pentathlon champion. Keller's total unseated Emily Pearson's record that has stood since 2008 by 198 points. For Keller, the result was an improvement of 424 points from her performance at last year's MW outdoor championship that had her fifth on CSU's list.
Â
Spurring Keller's record day, she reached personal records in all seven events within the multi including three that wound up on their respective top-20 lists too (long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles).
Â
Three Ram men also made their outdoor multi debut but in the decathlon. Mauricio Galindo Vega put together the ninth-best decathlon (7127) in school history and fifth in the meet, while Drew Thompson had the 13th-best mark (6965) thanks to a win in the multi's last event – the 1500 – and was ninth in the meet. Both went 5-for-5 in PRs on Thursday and then added two more Friday. Freshman Elijah Scott represented the other Ram with 5967 points for 13th on the day.
Â
Over in Boulder for the start of the Colorado Invitational, the Rams were just in action for the hammer throw. Tarynn Sieg (Bown) took the win on the women's side in her season debut, while Avery Lux placed third for the men. The rest of the Colorado Invitational starts at 11 a.m. MT Saturday with live results available here along with live stream for track events and throwing events.
