CSU Tied For Eighth After First Round of NCAA Bryan Regional

Jones, Bleier both shoot 1-under to lead the Rams as they remain in contention for one of five advancing spots

BRYAN, Texas – In the opening round of the NCAA Bryan Regional, Colorado State had a pair of under-par individual rounds and is tied for eighth through the first 18 holes Monday. The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Texas A&M University, is being played at Traditions Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,146 yards) in Bryan, Texas.
 
Playing for one of the five advancing spots to the NCAA Championship, the Rams, who started on No. 10, had some early mistakes but rallied later in the day to post a 5-over 293 in a tie with No. 42 Michigan State and sit just eight shots out of an advancing spot, as places five through 11 are separated by just 11 shots. No. 33 Arizona is the opening round leader at 12-under 276, with No. 6 Pepperdine three shots back at 9-under 279. No. 12 Texas A&M is at 8-under 280 in third, with No. 13 Oregon State one shot behind at 7-under 281. Oregon State rounds out the top five teams at 3-under 285.
 
Junior Connor Jones and freshman Christoph Bleier led the Rams' opening day effort with 1-under 71s in a tie for 16th. Jones had a team-high six birdies on the day, while Bleier's round was the most consistent with 15 pars, two birdies and a bogey. Senior Davis Bryant is next at 3-under 75, with redshirt-freshman Gavin Hagstrom at 4-over 76, tied for 52nd. Sophomore Rasmus Hjelm is tied for 59th at 5-over 77. Arizona's Chase Sienkiewicz is the individual leader at 7-under 65, two shots better than Derek Hitchner of Pepperdine in second at 5-under 67.
 
The Rams will begin the second round at 7:30 am CT/6:30 am MT, starting off No. 1 and again playing with Oregon State and Southeastern Louisiana.
