The Rams were the last at-large team into the 81-team field and will head to Texas as the No. 11 seed
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State will be making its 20th team appearance in the NCAA Regionals, as the Rams were named the No. 11 seed in the 2022 Bryan Regional to be played May 16-18 at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. CSU is one of five Mountain West teams to make the 81-team field for the six regional sites.
Â
The runner-up in last week's Mountain West Championship, Colorado State was last in the regionals in 2019, losing a one-hole team playoff for the final advancing spot at the Pullman (WA) Regional. The Rams were projected to easily qualify for the 2020 Regionals that were called off because of the worldwide pandemic. Last year, AJ Ott qualified as an individual and advanced to the national championship by finishing as tied for second in the Stillwater (OK) Regional. The Rams have advanced out of the regionals twice in history in 1999 and 2011.
Â
Battling injuries throughout the year, the Rams still managed a solid start to the year, with wins in the Ram Masters Invitational and Paintbrush Invitational, but still had some struggles in the final two events of the fall and were No. 115 in the Nov. 15 rankings. However, CSU made great strides in the Golfstat rankings since then and even, as of Feb. 28, were No. 101. Since then, CSU has put together a solid spring, with three top-four finishes, and moved up to No. 69 in the final rankings, making the field as the last at-large team in.
Â
The Rams are led by senior Davis Bryant, junior Connor Jones and sophomore Rasmus Hjelm. Bryant leads the team in scoring and win percentage this year and earned his first collegiate individual win at the 2021 Paintbrush Invitational. Jones was the Mountain West medalist last week with a 10-under 206, leads in top 10 finishes with four and is second in counting scores. Hjelm is tops in scoring relative to par and had his best finish with a tie for second at the nationally-televised Western Intercollegiate. Freshman Christoph Bleier, redshirt-freshman Gavin Hagstrom and freshman Jay Pabin have also made significant contributions to the Rams advancing to the postseason.
