Senior Ram Earns NCAA First Team All-American Status
EUGENE, Ore. – Earning Colorado State's best heptathlon finish in NCAA Championship history, Lexie Keller finished sixth Saturday in the two-day, seven-event multi at Hayward Field to cap the Rams' season on the biggest collegiate stage.
Â
The placement in the top eight calls for her second NCAA First Team All-American accolade of the season after the senior finished third in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Keller concluded with 5722 points to mark the fourth-best score for a Mountain West competitor in the conference's history.
Â
After coming into the day in 11th, Lexie Keller jumped five spots thanks to a strong performance in the final two events – javelin and the 800-meter race. In the opening event – the long jump – Keller measured a 19'5.5'' on her final attempt for her third-best mark of the season and just 2.5 inches from her PR. The javelin is when she started her movement up the leader board, throwing a PR of 37.80m/124'0'' on her final attempt again.
Â
Going into the final event, the 800, Keller was ninth in the 24-competitor field. After crossing the finish line in fifth with a time of 2:16.50, Keller jumped three spots to land in sixth place.
Â
With the closing of the NCAA Championships, the Rams collected four total All-American awards. Jacob Brueckman obtained a second-team award for his 15th-place 1500 showing. Jackson Morris grabbed a second-team nod for his 14th-place javelin placement plus a honorable mention honor in the 21st-place discus finish.
