The John Mackey Award Winner was selected No. 55 overall by the Arizona Cardinals.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The awards keep rolling in for Colorado State Football's Trey McBride even after his decorated collegiate career concluded.

After a final season in the Green and Gold that saw him earn the John Mackey Award for the nation's top tight end and become the program's first-ever unanimous All-American, McBride has been named the 2021-22 Mountain West Male Athlete of the Year by the league's athletic directors.

The Fort Morgan, Colo., native was selected No. 55 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He was the first tight end taken in the draft as well as the first student-athlete from the conference selected.

During the 2021 season, McBride posted one of the greatest seasons by an offensive player in school history and one of the all-time best by a tight end in FBS history.  He became just the second individual award winner in program history, joining Greg Myers (Thorpe, 1995), when he won the Mackey award as he led all FBS tight ends in receptions (90), yards (1,121), and yards per game (93.4). Along the way, McBride became the school's career and single-season leader in receptions and yards among tight ends, and the yardage total was the fifth-most in a single season by an FBS tight end and the most in Mountain West history.

He was also a two-time team captain and represented Colorado State with distinction frequently in external appearance opportunities. A hallmark of tenacity and the stalwart spirit of Colorado State, McBride left a lasting legacy on the program.

McBride gives Colorado State its third MW Athlete of the Year honor and first since Garrett Grayson was named the winner for the 2014-15 seasons. Volleyball's Danielle Minch was also named the 2010-11 Female Athlete of the Year by the league.
