Jackson Named to Bednarik Award Preseason Watch List

Senior linebacker up for honor presented annually to nation’s top defender
FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Closing in on 300 career tackles, Colorado State senior linebacker Dequan Jackson was named to the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced today.

The Bednarik Award, named after the former All-American at the University of Pennsylvania who later became an NFL All-Pro linebacker for Philadelphia, has been presented annually since 1994 to the nation's top collegiate defender. There are 90 players who comprise the preseason watch list, which will be narrowed down to semifinalists on Nov. 1, with three finalists announced on Nov. 22. The winner of the award will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8. The formal presentation will be made to the recipient at the Maxwell Football Club Awards in Atlantic City, N.J. on March 10, 2023.

Jackson, who has been a team captain the past two seasons, has been a second-team All-Mountain West selection during his career. He enters the 2022 season with 219 tackles, including 21.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He has also recovered four fumbles in his career. Slowed by an ankle injury late in 2021, Jackson still finished the season with 81 stops and a personal best 8.5 tackles for loss.
