Contests against Pac-12, SEC, Big-10, ACC foes on the slate, including ESPN's Charleston Classic
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State will welcome fans back to Moby Arena for seven home non-conference games along with the nine-game home league slate for the 2022-23 regular season, head coach Niko Medved announced today. In all, the Rams will play two significant road games, four neutral-site games along with the nine-conference road games as part of a 31-game regular-season schedule that could include as many as 11 teams (7 NCAA, 2 NIT, 1 CBI, 1 Basketball Classic) that competed in postseason action last year.
Following an exhibition game at home against Metro State on Oct. 28, Colorado State will open the regular season in Moby Arena, hosting Gardner-Webb on Mon., Nov. 7. CSU will then follow it up with two more home contests against Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 11) and Weber State (Nov. 14), before traveling to Charleston, S.C., for three games in the 2022 Shriners Children's Charleston Classic, Nov. 17-20, opening against the SEC's South Carolina Gamecocks.
CSU returns home for three more non-conference clashes with Mississippi ValleyState (Nov. 26), Loyola Marymount (Nov. 3) and Northern Colorado (Dec. 3). The Rams then wrap up non-conference action with three of the next four games away from home, starting at Colorado on Dec. 8. Peru State returns to Moby Arena on Dec. 11, before the Rams head to California after finals week to take on Saint Mary's on Dec. 18. CSU then heads to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame's Jerry Colangelo Classic, playing Southern Cal on Dec. 21.
"Once again, we felt it was important to put together a challenging non-conference schedule for our team," head coach Niko Medved said. "I am really happy we are able to do that. It will give us an opportunity to compete for postseason and get us ready for another tough Mountain West slate."
The Rams will open their 2022-23 Mountain West schedule for the second straight year at the Pit, taking on New Mexico on Dec. 28, the league announced today. The slate returns to the more traditional Tuesday-Saturday setup for the season with nine home and nine road games to determine the regular season champion.
CSU will open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, Dec. 31, when the Rams take on San Jose State, led by former head coach Tim Miles. The regular-season finale will be in Moby Arena on Saturday, March 4, when CSU hosts New Mexico for Senior Day. With the unbalanced schedule, Colorado State will only play Nevada (Jan. 3, road) and Utah State (Feb. 4, home) once during the regular season.
The annual MW Men's Basketball Championship will open on March 8 with three games at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., with the title game for the league's automatic NCAA Tournament berth played on Saturday, March 11.
The Mountain West portion of the schedule is subject to change based on the selection of games by the Mountain West national television partners. CBS Sports and FOX Sports will now initiate a selection procedure, which will include the shifting of several games from their current Saturday and Tuesday dates. Additional announcements on television selections and tip times will be made in the coming weeks.
