Rams Kid's Day and Play With the Rams held Sept. 24-25

2FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Creating opportunities to make new friends in the community – and to become reacquainted with longtime supporters – the Colorado State women's tennis program is hosting Rams Kid's Day on Sept. 24 and Playing With The Rams on Sept. 25. Both events will take place at the CSU Tennis Complex. Both events begin at 9:30 a.m.

The Rams Kid's Day is a clinic for local youth players, getting instruction from CSU coaches Mai-Ly Tran and Taylor Hollander, as well as current players on the team. It is open for children 5-12; they will need tennis shoes and a racket to participate.

"We will look forward to hosting this event each season," Tran said. "Most of us have been passionate about this game since our youth, so we're always excited to share that with the next generation of players in Northern Colorado. Our girls love working with younger players, teaching them the game and doing so with an emphasis on fun. Tennis is a lifelong sport, and it's never too early to get involved."

The following day, the program is bringing back Playing With The Rams, where adults can register to attend the event and even play against some of the players. The cost is $40 to attend, $80 for those who wish to play. Those who do are required to bring proper shoes and a racket.

That day, the tennis facility will be dedicated to Evelyn Hoeven and her late husband, Jim, ardent supports of the program and university and fixtures in the Fort Collins tennis community. The courts were named after them two years ago.

"We are grateful to Evie Hoeven and all the support she and her family have given the university and specifically the tennis program throughout the years," Tran said. "The pandemic kept us from dedicating our tennis center properly in her name, so we're excited to finally have the chance. Maybe it was fortuitous, as her granddaughter, Ky, is one of our newest players. This event provides us a great opportunity to engage with our community and each of our supporters, as well as say thank you to Evie and her family."

Colorado State begins the fall portion of the schedule Sept. 15-18 at the Bedford Cup at the Air Force Academy. The Rams will play at home for the first time Sept. 30-Oct. 2 as it hosts the Jon Messick Invitational at the CSU Tennis Facility. Tran, in her first season last year, led the team to the best season in program history with a 15-8 dual mark and a semifinals appearance in the Mountain West Tournament.
