CSU records its lowest season-opening score in five years, as senior Andrea Bergsdottir is tied for fourth
VERONA, Wis. – Colorado State recorded its best season-opening round in five years and is tied for fifth after the first day of the Badger Invitational, Sept. 18. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, is being played at University Ridge Golf Course (Par 72 – 6,248 yards) in Verona, Wis.

The Rams started on the back nine in the final wave of the day, with the counters posting a 4-over score through the first nine holes. CSU then went down to 3-over in the second nine and finished at 7-over 295, tied with Washington State for fifth in the 13-team field. Notre Dame leads at 4-under 284, eight shots ahead of Nebraska in second at 4-over 292. Old Dominion and North Florida are tied for third at 5-over 293, two shots ahead of the Rams.

"The ladies were very solid today tee to green," head coach Laura Cilek said. "It was a good first round to start the season and get back to competition. We will clean up some putting tomorrow and have another solid round to put ourselves in position for Tuesday."

Individually, CSU is led by senior Andrea Bergsdottir, who is one of eight players under par in the opening round as she is tied for fourth at 1-under 71. Bergsdottir recorded a team-high four birdies on the day and is four shots back of leader Lauren Beaudreau of Notre Dame at 5-under 67. Junior Panchalika Arphamongkol is next at 1-over 73, tied for 12th, with junior Sofia Torres two shots back in a tie for 29th at 3-over 75. Sophomore Lacey Uchida is next for CSU at 4-over 76 in a tie for 37th, while senior Gabby Minier is tied for 59th at 7-over 79.

"Andrea was solid today," Cilek continued. "She hit the ball very well and was great to see her get off to a quick start."

For Monday's second round, CSU will go off No. 1 starting at 8:50 a.m. MT, playing with North Florida and Washington State.
