Rams Close Out Dual Season at UNC

Team looks to remain unbeaten in duals for second year

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Friday serves as the end of the dual season, but also as a reminder. A series of them, really, and none are subtle.

Colorado State's women's swimming and diving team seeks to remain unbeaten in duals on the season as it travels to Northern Colorado on Friday; the event begins at 5 p.m. and will have a live stream. The Rams enter the dual with a 7-0-1 mark on the year and riding a 22 dual unbeaten streak dating back to last season.

"There's no letting the foot off the gas pedal at this point. If you have a lane, you have an opportunity, and we have an opportunity this Friday to finetune some things," CSU head coach Christopher Woodard said. "Some of sharpening the blade is going against worthy competition, and coach (Lisa) Ebeling does a great job over there."

Northern Colorado is 4-1 in duals on the season, 3-0 at the Butler-Hancock Pool.

Taper for the Mountain West Championships is still in the distance. The practice yardage is still intense, and with bodies feeling the work, Friday becomes a test. The third race of the day will be a reminder of the fatigue they'll have to battle through the third day of competition, and a challenge to not cut corners on turns and underwaters on the last leg or a race.

For Woodard, the mental fortitude will guide the physical response, so he's on the watch for the signs of discipline the Rams will need in Houston.

"I always use the last meet as a dress rehearsal that you may feel better, you may be rested, you may be shaved, you  may be tapered, the boards and platform may be of a higher quality when you go to conference, but it's three and half days," he said. "It's a grind, and when you get to Saturday, it's real easy to start thinking ahead about what you're going to do when you get home. At this point of the season, we're tired and beat up, so if we can still throw down against a great opponent, then good, you've shown the toughness we're going to need in three weeks."
