Malaya Jones Named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week

Jones earns the first weekly award honor of her career
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Redshirt junior Malaya Jones was named the Mountain West Offensive Athlete of the Week after week two of the conference schedule as Jones led the Rams to a 2-0 weekend with wins over San Diego State and UNLV.

The right side hitter competed in all seven sets last weekend, playing in both the front and back row for the Rams. Colorado State defeated the Aztecs 3-1 Thursday night before taking the victory over UNLV 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Jones tallied 25 kills over the weekend as a whole averaging 3.57 kills per set at a .321 efficiency. She also averaged 4.07 points per set, as well as a total of 14 digs, 2.00 per set.

Against the Aztecs Thursday night, Jones posted a .278 hitting percentage on 16 kills as well as recording her first career double-double with 10 digs. In the sweep over the Rebels, Jones posted nine kills, turning in a .412 hitting percentage.

Jones has led the Rams in kills in seven of the last eight games for Colorado State while this is the first weekly award win of her career.

Colorado State will face Wyoming Tuesday night in the first Border War of the season before hosting San Jose State at home Saturday at 1 p.m.
