Colorado State men’s basketball returns home Friday to host Kansas City

FORT COLLINS – Fresh off passing its first road test of the 2023-24 season Colorado State men's basketball returns home to Moby Arena Friday night to host the Kansas City Roos at 7 pm.
 
Opening Tip
- Colorado State improved to 3-0 passing its first road test of the year 83-64 at Northern Colorado
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his sixth year leading Colorado State. He is 95-64 as the Rams' head coach. With five more wins he will become the fifth coach in program history to reach the 100 wins mark.
- Isaiah Stevens returns for his final year of eligibility and the nation is taking notice of the guard. Stevens was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year and one of 20 players named to the Bob Cousy Preseason Watch List.
- Stevens has a pair of double-doubles on the year and already reset one of his own records when he posted 14 assists against Wright State. He is averaging 20.3 points and 9.3 assists through three games, including coming off back-to-back 20 point games.
- Newcomer Joel Scott extended his streak to 50 straight games reaching double figures scoring with his 20 points against Northern Colorado. He is CSU's second leading scorer with 18.3 ppg.
- Nique Clifford grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds on the way to his first double-double in the Green & Gold. Clifford finished the night with 11 points and 14 boards.
- CSU's defense played well in the win holding the home team to 36.9% shooting.
- The Rams lead the Mountain West in assist-turnover ratio (2.48), assists per game (24.0), fast break points per game (19.33) and free throw percentage (82.5%).
- Friday's game marks the first ever match up between Colorado State and Kansas City.
- While it is the first ever match up between the two programs, Roos head coach Marvin Menzies is no stranger to Moby Arena coaching UNLV from 2016-2019.
- UMKC started the season with a pair of non-DI wins before falling at No. 15/13 Baylor on Tuesday.
 
Scouting the Roos
Kansas City enters Friday night's game with a 2-1 record winning their pair of non-DI games to open the season before falling to Baylor on Tuesday 99-61.
 
The duo of Jamar Brown and Anderson Kopp lead the team averaging 15.0 and 14.0 points, respectively.
 
The Roos have a strong bench averaging 30.67 points per game so far, while also attacking the offensive glass grabbing 16.67 offensive boards.
 
UMKC was picked to finish eighth in the Summit League this season with a team returning three starters from 2022-23.
 
What's Ahead
Colorado State heads to Kansas City for the Hall of Fame Classic over Thanksgiving. The tournament begins on Wednesday, November 22 when the Rams take on Boston College at 11:30 am MT on CBS Sports Network.
