Rams Fight for Gritty Win at UTEP

Colorado State stays undefeated behind Ronsiek career-night

EL PASO, Texas – Gritty wins are still wins. Colorado State stayed undefeated with a 66-59 win over UTEP on Thursday night after trailing for nearly three quarters. Sophomore Hannah Ronsiek led the Rams with a career-high 25 points. The Rams scored 25 points in the second quarter to tie the game at the break before adding 19 points in the final frame to secure the win.
 
How It Happened
- The Rams made just three buckets in the first quarter before responding with nine in the second, including six 3s
- CSU trailed by as many as 13 early in the second quarter before finishing the half on a 22-9 run to even the game going into the break
- Colorado State took its first lead early in the second half, but never led by more than two points until less than four minutes left to play
- Meghan Boyd added to the Rams' 19 bench points hitting back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the third quarter, which also gave CSU the lead
- The Rams had their largest lead of the game with 3:35 remaining after a 3-pointer by Hannah Ronsiek at 59-56
- CSU increased its lead to five with 2:10 left after a Sydney Mech layup
- From there it was a free throw game. Hofschild hit a pair with 26 seconds left to put the Rams' lead back to five
- Sanna Strom added to the leading hitting two big free throws with 23 seconds left to push the lead to seven
- UTEP didn't make a bucket with the clock moving in the last 5:19 – missing its last six attempts
 
Box Score Breakdown
- Hannah Ronsiek had a career-high in the first half, scoring 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. She finished with 25 on 9-of-12 shooting and 7-of-10 from deep.
- McKenna Hofschild finished with 13 points and seven assists along with a pair of steals
- Cali Clark made her presence known in the paint, recording four blocks and four rebounds
- The Rams were 14-of-32 from 3-point range, making just six baskets inside the arc
- Colorado State was 12-of-14 from the charity stripe, which included going 9-of-10 in the fourth quarter
- CSU turned the ball of 14 times, but forced the Miners into 21
