Rams Muscle Out Gritty Team Win Against Anteaters

Colorado State returns to the win column after a battle against UC Irvine

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Despite scoring just 11 points in the first quarter, Colorado State responded by outscoring UC Irvine the rest of the game on its way to a 69-63 victory on Saturday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Rams scored just 11 points in the first quarter – the second lowest of the season (San Francisco)
- CSU was 4-of-5 to start the game, but missed its next seven shots to finish the first quarter not scoring in the last 6:40 to trail 16-11
- Colorado State outscored the Anteaters in the second quarter, 20-17 behind Meghan Boyd's three 3-pointers
- At the break CSU was 11-of-27 with 19 of those shots coming from behind the arch
- The Rams trailed by as many of five in the second quarter before going on a 6-0 run to take the lead at 20-19 with 6:04 left in the half
- There was another scoring drought in midway through the third quarter where CSU didn't score for over three minutes but finished scoring 10 points in the last 3:41
- The Rams used the charity stipe in the final frame making 13 trips and scoring 12 of their 19 points from the line
- Colorado State didn't score a field goal in the final 5:13, but went to the line 11 times, making 10 of those tries
- Cailyn Crocker added eight points on eight attempts, including CSU's last six points
 
BOX SCORE
- Four different Rams reached double-figure points, led by Kendyll Kinzer and Cailyn Crocker each with 13
- Hannah Ronsiek and Meghan Boyd added 12 points apiece
- Boyd added all 12 points going 4-of-7 from deep
- Ronsiek and Crocker both handled the boards, each pulling in six apiece
- McKenna Hofschild finished with nine points and eight assists – her first single-figure scoring game in three seasons
- Colorado State finished with 15 turnovers, which UC Irvine turned into 15 points
- The Anteaters also handled the boards 39-29 and adding 19 second-chance points
- Neither team led by double-digits with the Rams leading by six happening with 8:09 left to play and as the final score
 
UP NEXT
Colorado State will finish its non-conference schedule next week, hosting Mississippi State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first SEC school in Moby Arena for women's basketball in program history and the first SEC basketball program in Moby since the 2018-19 season (MBB vs. Auburn).
