Trio gains valuable experience as invite comes to a close

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On a board – really a series of boards -- they seldom get work on, Colorado State's trio of divers gained some valuable training experience on the final day of the Air Force Diving Invitational.

All three placed in the top 20, missing out on the finals session. Senior Jessica Albanna led the trio with a score of 183.35 in the five-dive set, followed by Braeden Shaffer (174.75) and Maggie Di Scipio (167.75). For the freshman Di Scipio, it was her first collegiate platform competition. They placed 17th-19th, with the top 12 advancing to the finals.

"I thought tower went very well considering we don't have many opportunities to train this event," CSU head diving coach Chris Bergere said. "The divers were relaxed, and so was I. The team was confident with their easy dive list and performed it well.

"It's difficult to score high in the standings when you don't perform the more difficult dives."

Now the entire swim and dive team turns it's attention to the postseason. A few Rams not competing at conference will take part this weekend at the DU First Chance Invite (Feb. 10-11), with the remainder of the squad focused on the Mountain West Championships on Feb. 15-18 in Houston at the CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.
