Colorado State men’s golf sits in second with play suspended on the first day of The Duck
EUGENE, Ore. – Colorado State men's golf escaped the early spring snow that hit Fort Collins and headed to Oregon to compete in The Duck. Day one was supposed to see 36-holes completed, but a delayed start led to a suspension of the second round as daylight ran out. CSU sits in second play entering tomorrow's final day of competition thanks to the trio of Connor Jones, Christoph Bleier and Matthew Wilkinson all sitting inside the top 10.
The Rams are currently 8-over for the tournament, seven strokes behind host Oregon.
Jones leads the trio sitting in a tie for third at even-par. The senior shot a 1-under in the opening 18 with a pair of birdies and a bogey. He was the most consistent Ram during the first round. He has stayed consistent in round two with two bogeys and a birdie on his 13th and final hole of the day before the horn sounded. Jones sits in a tie for third.
Bleier and Wilkinson are each a stroke behind Jones at 1-over for the tournament in a tie for sixth. Bleier had a roller coaster of a first round with a team-leading four birdies, but also a pair of double bogeys to ending up 1-over for it. He is currently even through 14 holes of round two.
The freshman, Wilkinson, is seeing his first team competition since the season-opener at the Gene Miranda Invitational and making the most of it. He shot 2-over, 73 in the opening round with an eagle and triple bogey. He is currently 1-under for his second round with four holes to play.
The Rams will return to finish the second round and play the final 18 tomorrow starting at 9:30 am MT. CSU enters tomorrow on a stretch of the course where they shot 4-under on as a team to close the first round strong and look to do the same on Tuesday.
