Senior upbeat for Wednesday’s 1-meter competition
FEDERAL WAY, Wash.  – Reaching the next level of competition was the target, and with her first taste of NCAA Zones diving under her belt, Colorado State senior Jessica Albanna gets a day off before she caps the event at the Kings Aquatics Center.
Â
Albanna scored a 206.10 to sit 47th in a field of 49 divers on the 3-meter springboard at Zones E. Her best dives came on the bookends of her six-dive set, scoring a 42.00 to open and closing with a 40.50.
Â
"I think she handled herself well. She was composed mentally and prepared well at practice," CSU diving coach Chris Bergere said. "The judging is harsh at times if you miss any dive. I thought Jess started off well in her first two rounds. She didn't miss any dive badly, but she wasn't as sharp as she could have been on three of her dives."
Â
She will have a day away from competition on Tuesday, returning Wednesday for the 1-meter competition, which begins at 12:30 p.m. (MT). It is the better even for Albanna, who put together a strong senior season, so Bergere expects her to perform better.
Â
"Jess is in good spirits for the 1-meter competition," he said. "She is a better 1-meter diver and his comfortable with her repertoire of dives. I'm confident her placing will be better. We're both optimistic going into the final event of her diving career."
