Thrower earns second-team All-American honors in men’s javelin

AUSTIN, Tex. – Six athletes from the Colorado State track and field team made the trip to Austin, Texas for the 2023 Outdoor NCAA Championship Meet and competition got started Wednesday afternoon with senior Jackson Morris competing in the men's javelin throw.

Morris, who broke his own school record in the men's javelin early this season, came into the competition with his top mark of the season set at 74.27 meters, which ranked tenth among the starting field of throwers Wednesday afternoon.

Competing in the first flight, Morris threw a top mark of 73.21 meters on his second throw of the first round and then had to wait through the second flight to see where his mark would fall. After the second flight, he fell just short of landing in the top nine athletes of round one and did not qualify for the final round of throws.

"I was so proud of the way Jackson competed," head coach Brian Bedard said. "It was the best series of his life, but unfortunately after an officiating technicality, he just missed qualifying for the finals which broke his heart."

With a 10th place finish, Morris earns second-team All-American honors in the men's javelin for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field season, the second All-American honor of his career as he also earned a spot on the second-team in the men's javelin last season.

The remainder of the Rams' NCAA Championship qualifying team will compete over the next three days in Austin.
