CSU sits in a tie for fourth after the first round of the Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. – A strong close to their opening 18 of the 2023-24 season helped Colorado State women's golf sit in a three-way tie for fourth place at the Badger Invitational. The Rams, along with Iowa and Augusta, shot an 8-over 296 on Sunday.

Host Wisconsin and Delaware sit four strokes ahead of CSU entering Monday's second round.

Age and youth led Colorado State on Sunday with graduate student Andrea Bergsdottir and freshman Kara Kaneshiro each firing opening round 1-over, 73s. The freshman started strong with a birdie on her first two collegiate holes. Kaneshiro hit some bumps in the middle of her round, reaching as high as 3-over, before closing strong with two birdies and four pars over her final six holes.

For Bergsdottir, she had a slow start making the turn at 3-over with three straight bogeys on the front night. The veteran stayed true to her game and birdied three of her final seven holes to end up in a tie for 11th.

One other Ram sites in the top 20 in Sofia Torres who turned in an opening round 2-over, 74.

Colorado State tees off the second round of the Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course starting at 8:45 am MT. The Rams will be paired with Iowa and Augusta. Live results of the round can be found on GolfStat.
