Rams Earn Two Top-10 Team Finishes at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS – Colorado State cross country competed in the Roy Griak Invitational Friday in Minneapolis, Minn. The women's team finished third, the men's team eighth.

Sarah Carter crossed fourth in the women's race, a 6K, with a time of 20:57.1. Emily Chaston posted a top-15 time of 21:34.9.

The Rams, ranked 29th in the latest USTFCCCA women's cross country coaches' poll, finished ahead of No. 19 New Mexico. No. 22 Cal Baptist and No. 24 Utah were the only teams to place ahead of CSU.

"Our women rocked today," said head coach Kelly Hart. "They ran as a unit and did a great job of helping each other out during the race. It was great to see them compete well especially against conference teams."

In the men's race, which was an 8K, Mason Brown cracked the top 10 with a time of 24:26.4.

"Today was a bit of a wake up call for our men," added Hart. "Failure to get out well cost them later in the race, but fortunately it's something we can work on for future meets. We have full confidence our men will be where they need to be come championship season."

Colorado State will have two weeks off before traveling south to compete in the Colorado Springs XC Open.
