Rams Continue Play at Regionals

Team looking to battle back in consolation rounds
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Fall tournaments can lead to long days for players and teams, especially the regionals hosted by the ITA with deep, talented fields.

Colorado State's stay in the tournament will now be limited to consolation play at the NCAA Fall Championships qualifier as he Rams dropped three of four matches in the round of 64. Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya was the lone Rams to take a step forward in the championship bracket with her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Millie Day of Idaho State. In the following round, she fell to the No. 5 seed, Kaila Barksdale of Utah, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley dropped their opening matches in straight sets, while Logan Voeks dropped a three-set decision to Utah State's Indya Nespor, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Mariya Dobreva, playing in the consolation of the play-in bracket, posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Angel Bean of Montana State.

In the consolation round, Weekley came back with a straight-sets win over Marlene Foerster, dropping just two games. Voeks came back with a win, needing three sets to beat Dylan Lolofie of Utah, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Erechtchenko fell in consolation to Air Force's Shivaani Selvan in straight sets.

In a pair of doubles consolation matches, the duo of Weekley and Zhadzinskaya topped their Montana foes 6-3, while Dobreva and Erechtchenko fell in a tight match to Idaho, 7-6 (3).
