CSU sends former athletes to compete in 2024 Olympic Games

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State fans will see three familiar faces competing in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris starting this weekend. Gian Clavell (basketball), Lauren Gale (track & field) and Mostafa Hassan (track & field) will all represent their countries.

Colorado State has been represented at every Summer Olympic Games since 1972.

Gale and Hassan are making their second Olympic appearance, both qualifying to compete in Toyko in 2021. Gale will represent Canada on their sprints team, while Hassan will throw shot put for Egypt. Track and field competition begins August 1.

Clavell will make his Olympic debut after helping Puerto Rico's men's basketball team qualify for the games earlier this month. It is the first time Puerto Rico has made the Olympics for men's basketball since 2004. Clavell and his teammates are in a group with the United States, Serbia and South Sudan. Pool play for basketball starts July 27.
