Leimane to Represent Latvia on International Stage

Rams' guard to lead home nation at FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State women's basketball player Marta Leimane has embarked on a journey to represent her home country of Latvia at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Europe Cup this week.

A native of Ventspils – a city of 32,000 along the northwest coast of the country – Leimane was selected to join the four-woman squad competing in the 12-team tournament. The Ram guard has represented her country's 3x3 team before in various competitions, with this being her first appearance in Europe's top 3x3 tournament.

The Europe Cup begins on Thursday, Aug. 24, in Vienna, Austria. Drawn into Group D, Latvia opens play against Hungary on Friday (4:25 a.m. MT) before facing the Netherlands (7:50 a.m. MT) to round out group play. Should it advance, Latvia would play in the quarterfinals on Saturday with a chance to compete in the semifinals and final on Sunday. All Europe Cup games will be streamed live in the U.S. on FIBA 3x3's YouTube Channel.

Leimane was a key piece in the Rams starting lineup at the peak of the 2023-24 season, starting each of the final 11 games and averaging 14.2 points across that stretch. Entering her junior campaign in Fort Collins, Leimane figures to have an important role in the Rams' journey to capture another Mountain West title.
