The two-time All-American becomes the fourth Ram to earn top conference award.
FORT COLLINS – Winning consistently at a personal and team level, Mya Lesnar made her point with the Mountain West.
Â
After amassing one of the top national resumes among track and field athletes during the 2023-24 season, the Colorado State thrower was named the conference's Female Athlete of the Year. Lesnar is just the second CSU female student-athlete – and fourth Ram overall – to earn the conference's top athletic distinction.
Â
Few athletes across the nation had as much of an impact on their team's success throughout the calendar year as Lesnar did. In the Rams' run to both indoor and outdoor conference championships on the women's side, Lesnar led the way by contributing an impressive 20 points in each contest. Lesnar's individual efforts earned her four conference titles, topping the league in the indoor and outdoor shot put, outdoor hammer throw and indoor weight throw.
Â
Her success reached far beyond the conference level as Lesnar was crowned the 2024 NCAA Indoor Shot Put National Champion in February, and collected a second All-America nod in the outdoor shot put for her performances at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore., in June.
Â
Among Lesnar's conquests was the Colorado State record book as she rewrote program history in the shot put. The junior broke the school indoor record with a throw of 18.50m in the first meet of the season at the Mines Alumni Classic in December. Lesnar improved upon the mark over the course of the season, and at the MW Indoor Championships in February, she put forth her best effort with a throw of 19.10m. The outdoor shot put mark soon became hers as well, as the Alexandria, Minn., native threw 19.08m at the MW outdoor championships.
