Freshman consistent in return home

RIVERSIDE, Calif.  – Being out in the open wasn't an issue for Riley Lee, who performed well on the first day of the Lancers Diving Invitational held at California Baptist.

The freshman from California paced the shortened Colorado State contingent at the meet, which opened on the 3-meter springboard. Lee scored a 240.05, just a bit shy of her season best in the 31-competitor field. The score was good enough to advance her to the finals, where she placed 11th with an improved score of 245.30

"I thought the meet went very well for Riley Lee.  She was very consistent with her diving repertoire, averaging fives and sixes on most of her dives," CSU diving coach Chris Bergere said. "Riley is used to diving outside in California where the weather and sun can play a significant factor. She was very steady, and the weather for her was not a significant factor.  It happened to be a very windy day; the Santa Ana wind is a real factor right now in California."

The Rams only had two of the four divers compete (the other two were pulled for various reasons), with Makenna Post scoring a 177.90. As Bergere expected, the conditions were a new variable for her as she continues to work toward performing more challenging dives to add to her card.

The scores will be added into the mix when the swimmers compete against San Diego and San Diego State on Saturday, with Lee's score sitting third overall, Post's tally seventh.

The meet continues tomorrow as the divers turn to the platform tower as the preliminary round begins at 12 p.m. (MT).
