Rams Host In-State Foes in Home Opener

High energy fuels the team in their home waters

FORT COLLINS – A boost of energy after weeks of training comes at the perfect time against familiar foes.

Colorado State's women's swimming and diving team will host Colorado Mesa and Denver on Friday at Edora Pool Ice Center at 2 p.m. The meet – which will have a live stream -- will represent the Rams first head-to-head competition since the Front Range Invitational.

The Rams enter this meet with a clear sense of focus. Having already competed against Pioneers and being familiar with the Mavericks, both opponents will provide a good challenge and an opportunity to test their strengths.

Coach Christopher Woodward emphasized this meet is about team effort. Success does not come from individual performances, but how the team rises to the challenge together, supporting one another and executing in each race.

We've already seen Denver, and we're familiar with Mickey (Coach Wender) and his team at Mesa. Both teams are really tough and have raised the level of expectation for us, Woodward said. With three weeks of training behind us, our goal at this meet is to refine our techniques. If we were breathing into turns before, we won't this time, and if our dolphin kicks off the wall were short, we're making them stronger.

The Rams will carry the momentum from the first competition into this upcoming meet. Energy and focus were standout elements during this season's opener, with swimmers supporting one another and maintaining intensity in the lanes.

The same level of competitiveness and energy is expected to carry over, creating a strong foundation for the Rams against Colorado Mesa and Denver.

We expect to bring the same energy we had at the Front Range Invitational into this head-to-head meet. It's no longer just about doing your best. It's about competing directly and pushing each other in every race, Woodward said. Energy was the biggest factor last time. I love the energy of the team, from supporting each other to really being aggressive in the first 15 meters off the block in their races, to being engaged in terms of knowing where the points were and how we were stacking up.
