Athletes continue earning valuable on-court experience
LAS VEGAS – On the second day of the Mountain West Fall Individuals tournament, Colorado State played a total of four consolation matches after falling to their competition on day one.
Â
Despite getting knocked out of the tournament, the Rams stepped back on to courts Friday to play for the sake of gaining experience against some high-level competitors. Junior Sorcha Caves got to play Utah State's Natalie Paterova, walking away with a 6-4, 6-0 win. Caves also played in a doubles match with teammate Luana Avelar, earning a win over Air Force's Yule Kang and Jariahlyn Rhoades, 6-3. Avelar faced Rhoades again in singles, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Â
Stella Simpson-Morgan played Klara Vukicevic of Fresno State, unfortunately falling to the senior. Simpson-Morgan being just a freshman demonstrated resilience and perseverance throughout the tough match.
Â
While the tournament will end here for the Rams, they had great turnaround results. Assistant coach Scott Langs felt that the team was able to better judge their opponents.
Â
"We did better at seeing what works for us and learning what makes our opponents uncomfortable," Langs said, noting the players will pick up another set of matches on Saturday.
