Josh Pascarelli named the Mountain West Player of the Week
FORT COLLINS – Josh Pascarelli has not been affected by the cold weather that has moved into the Fort Collins area the past couple of weeks; in fact, he's heated up. The junior guard scored 26 points, connecting on eight 3-pointers, leading Colorado State over previously unbeaten rival Colorado and earning the Mountain West's Player of the Week honor.
Â
Pascarelli burying eight shots from behind the arc came as no surprise to his teammates, who saw him put on a similar performance just a week earlier at the Battle 4 Atlantis, where he was a perfect 8-for-8 from 3-point land against South Florida. The New Yorker is 16 for his last 18 3-point attempts.
Â
While his 3-point shooting has dazzled fans around the nation, Pascarelli's most important shot of the victory over Colorado was actually a 2-pointer. Inside the final 45 seconds of the game, the junior drew his defender in the air with a hesitation move as if he was going to step back to connect for his ninth 3 of the game. Instead, he drove past him, pulled up at the free throw line and made the game-clinching basket.
Â
Pascarelli charges the Rams' lethal shooting behind the arc, averaging 3.89 makes a game, third best in the NCAA, while shooting an incredible 53.0% from 3-point range, ninth best in the NCAA. As a team, Colorado State ranks sixth in the nation with 12.4 3s per game and makes them at a rate of 45.9% to lead the NCAA.
Â
The sharp-shooting Rams return to action Tuesday night, hosting Dartmouth at 7 p.m. inside Moby Arena. Tickets for the game are available at CSURams.com/MBBTickets or by calling 888-491-RAMS (7267).
