Reigning indoor shot put national champion recognized as best collegiate T&F athlete in Colorado.
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State's Mya Lesnar was named the Sportswomen of Colorado College Track and Field Athlete of the Year when the organization announced the honorees for its 51st Annual Awards celebration. The awards recognize the remarkable achievements of girls and women in sports across Colorado during the 2024 calendar year.
Â
The honor is the latest addition to one of the most impressive resumes in CSU history. After winning the 2024 NCAA Indoor shot put title last season, Lesnar was named the Mountain West's Female Athlete of the Year, which honors the top female athlete in the conference across all sports.
Â
A first-team all-American in both indoor and outdoor shot put last season, Lesnar broke the Colorado State and conference indoor shot put records with a throw of 19.10m/62-8 to win the MW indoor event title. Lesnar also captured the conference crown in the weight throw, helping Colorado State claim the women's team title.
Â
At the MW outdoor championships, Lesnar won another pair of conference titles in the shot put (19.08m/62-7.25) and the hammer throw (62.00m/203-5) to help the Ram women win a second-straight outdoor league championship. Lesnar went on to qualify for the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., where she placed fifth in the event.
Â
This season, the senior is already making a push to repeat as national champion as she logged the country's top mark of 18.81m/61-8.5 in her first event of the season. Lesnar and the Rams have another pair of meets (Feb. 14-15) to tune up before the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on Feb. 27-March 1.
