Dembele Named MW Field Athlete of the Week

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State's Ismael Dembele was named the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the triple jump at the UNLV Rebel Elite in Las Vegas this past weekend.

Dembele put together several impressive jumps, including a 15.60-meter/50-feet-5.5 (2.6) try on his final attempt that vaulted him to 17th in the nation and tops in the MW this outdoor season. Despite meeting the wind adjustment requirements for the national qualifying list (4.0) the jump was just above the threshold of 2.0 to meet CSU record book and personal best requirements.

However, Dembele's second attempt of 15.38/49-2.5 (1.3) met the standard and improved his career mark, bumping him up to fourth all time in program history. It has been a fantastic start to the outdoor season for the junior, who won the conference triple jump title at the indoor championships in March.

Dembele is set to compete again this weekend at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic in Golden this Friday and Saturday (April 11-12).
