Ram’s lead returning rusher set for sophomore campaign
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State running back Justin Marshall was tabbed to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Monday.Â
Â
The Doak Walker Award annually recognizes the top running back in the country and is a member of the National College Football Award Association (NCFAA), which encompasses college football's most prestigious awards.Â
Â
Marshall is Colorado State's lead returning rusher after racking up 746 yards on 154 carries during his redshirt freshman campaign in 2024. Across his 13 games played – which included six starts – Marshall found the endzone on four occasions while also logging 62 receiving yards on eight receptions.Â
Marshall announced his arrival to CSU fans during his three games played during his true freshman season in 2023, rushing for 90-or-more yards in each outing with two total touchdowns on the ground.Â
Â
The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. Each Tuesday of the 2025 season, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum will announce a Doak Walker National Running Back of the week. In November, 10 semifinalists will be named, followed by three finalists as voted on by the committee. A second vote will then be held to determine the winner to be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards in December.Â
