Colorado State tight end among those up for college football’s premier scholar-athlete award

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State tight end Rocky Beers was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced on Wednesday.

Beers is among 177 semifinalists for college football's premier scholar-athlete award, which looks across all NCAA divisions and the NAIA levels. Now in its 36th year, the Campbell Trophy accounts for strong academics (minimum 3.2 GPA), outstanding football ability as a first team player, and demonstration of strong leadership and citizenship.

A native of Littleton, Colo., Beers transferred to Colorado State for his final season of eligibility following stints at Air Force and Florida International. After earning his bachelors degree in public health and social work from FIU, Beers is studying for a masters in agricultural sciences- integrated resource management at CSU with the hopes of one day owning his own farm that can sustainably feed his family and those of his siblings.

Beers' impact has been felt on the field for the Rams as he recently logged a career-best game against UTSA, hauling in four passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Off the field, Beers has been active in the community working with the Special Olympics and Colorado State's chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

The NFF will announce 12-16 finalists on Oct. 22, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2025 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Beers and the Rams are preparing to host Washington State on Sept. 27 for the annual State Pride game. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT, with tickets available on CSURams.com/Tickets.
