Kekua Richards Named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

Redshirt sophomore earns first weekly award of her career
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State volleyball middle blocker Kekua Richards was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Rams to two wins throughout the week on the road.
Richards totaled 36 kills over the four matches in week two of the regular season, hitting at a .454 clip. She also finished the weekend with 52.5 points, totaling 33 blocks, including a career-high 13 in a five-set win over CSUN.
The redshirt sophomore averaged 1.83 blocks per set over four games for the Rams. Out of her 13 blocks against CSUN, five came in the dominant first set while she totaled two in each of the final sets to clinch the win for the Rams.Â
The team will continue its non-conference season play with a matchup against East Texas A&M Thursday before hosting Notre Dame Friday, with both games set to take place at Moby Arena at 6 p.m.
