Former Mountain West decathlon champion will compete in bobsled
FORT COLLINS  – For just the second time, Colorado State will have a representative in the Winter Olympics as Hunter Powell has been selected as part of the United States men's bobsled team for the Milano Cortina Games of 2026.
Â
Powell won Mountain West championships in 2019 for the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2019. He is also a Fort Collins native and graduate of Fort Collins High School.
Â
Powell is the second CSU track and field athlete to make an Olympic bobsled team, joining Scott Stoll; Stoll, a 1991 graduate, competed at the Lillehammer Games in 1994. Powell becomes the 23rd former CSU athlete to participate in the Olympics, 11 of whom were products of the track and field program. Among them, Glenn Morris won gold in the decathlon in 1936; Pamela Green won silver in 1976 in the 200 meters; and Janay DeLoach claimed bronze in the high jump in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
Â
The 2026 Winter Olympics run from Feb. 6-22, with the bobsled events beginning Feb. 12. Powell is part of the four-man sled piloted by Kris Horn, along with Carsten Vissering and Caleb Furnell. The two-man bobsled pairings will be announced at a later date.
