Team ready to rally for in-state foes
FORT COLLINS - The water is electric, the stakes are high, and Senior Day is here.
Â
Colorado State's women's swimming and diving team returns to Moby Pool on Saturday to host the Senior Day dual against in-state foe Northern Colorado, with diving set at 10 a.m. and swimming events following at 11 a.m. The Rams will honor their senior class in their final home meet of the season as they face the Bears in front of the home crowd, with a live stream available.
Â
The Rams will recognize eight seniors before the competition, celebrating a meaningful milestone and acknowledging many years of leadership, hard work, and commitment that shaped the heart of CSU swimming and diving.
Â
Senior Day represents both celebrations and a transition for Colorado State, as the program reflects the impact of a class that helped push standards higher. This year's senior class includes Erin Dawson, Maggie Di Scipio, Delaney Engle, Ashlyn Hembree, Sophia Hemingway, Azalea Shepherd, Lexi Trietley, and Claire Wright.
Â
"Senior Day is about honoring those individuals, but it's also cyclical," coach Christopher Woodard said. "We're saying goodbye to athletes who invested deeply in this program and helped evaluate it. This senior class has been phenomenal in pushing the program forward, not just on the record board, but in raising the aspirations and goals of the athletes coming up behind them."
Â
While emotions are naturally elevated during the final home meet, the Rams remain focused on racing with purpose and executing at a high level. Senior day brings added energy to the pool, with family, teammates, and fans creating a meaningful atmosphere. The team embraces the moment while maintaining discipline and attention to detail in each race.
Â
"There are a lot of pleasant distractions on Senior Day, such as the atmosphere, parents, and special recognition," Woodard said. "We don't try to shut that out. We want out athletes to enjoy the support, but once they get behind the blocks and the goggles come down, it's just another race and another opportunity to execute."
As part of the day, Amy Van Dyken will be honored with the dropping of her banner as the six-time Olympic gold medalist and NCAA champion joins the Colorado State Ring of Honor.
Â
Northern Colorado brings a competitive challenge for the Rams to rise to the occasion and make the most of their final home meet of the season. The team's commitment and discipline will be on full display as every swimmer strives for a strong team performance and individually.
Â
"They're a hard-nosed team that doesn't give in easily, especially late in races," Woodard said. "They're not afraid of altitude or different lineups, so for us it's about being smart, executing cleanly, and handling our business so we're not in a dogfight at the end."
