A key late-season test ahead of Mountain West Championships

Pressure, precision, and preparation define the next competitive challenge.

Colorado State's women's diving team will travel to Colorado Springs to compete in the Air Force Diving Invitational. The competition will take place from Jan. 29-31. The three-day event will serve as a key checkpoint for the Rams for the upcoming Mountain West championships.

The invitational will be in a championship-style format, with one board contested each day, including the platform event, which is normally limited throughout the regular season. This provides valuable experience as the team continues to sharpen their competitive edge.

"This is a great meet to have toward the end of the season," said diving coach Seth O'Dea. "It is set up like a conference meet where we get to compete on one board each day, including platform. With limited practice time on that board, this gives us great experience and preparation heading into championships."

The meet also presents an important opportunity for divers seeking to achieve NCAA Zone qualifying scores. Currently, three Rams have already secured zone cuts. Sydney Ovesen and Maggie Di Scipio have qualified on the 1-meter board, while Riley Lee has earned her qualifying score on the 3-meter.

"Having three out of the five already qualified is huge for us," O'Dea said. "This meet gives everyone another chance to chase those cuts, especially on platform, which we don't get many opportunities to compete on."

Freshman Juliana Dodd displayed significant strength on platform and will look to take advantage of the additional competition as she aims for her first zone qualification in the event.

"This is when we really dial in meet preparation," O'Dea said. "It's a great chance to feel that pressure and gain experience competing in a high-level environment before the conference competition.

As the Rams gear up for the Mountain West Championships, diving under pressure is critical for the growth of the team and shifting into a championship-style mindset built on preparation, consistency, and confidence. With valuable experience on the boards this season, the Rams will prepare to face some tough competition on the Mountain West Stage.

"It's all part of the process," O'Dea said. "The girls have been doing great, and this meet is crucial for seeing how we perform under pressure against strong competition. It's about learning where we stack up and continuing to grow."
