Ovesen Reaches Second Final at Air Force

Freshman nails down Zones cut on 3-meter springboard
AIR FORCE ACADEMY – As with any debut season, there is much to learn, and the lessons never stop. Even still, Sydney Ovesen is proving to be a pretty astute student.
She had her best set during the preliminaries, hitting a personal-best score of 282.50, achieving the NCAA Zones cut on the board to go along with the 1-meter standard she has hit previously. She is the first Ram this season to qualify for Zones on multiple boards.
"She did great in the preliminaries. She had a lot of great energy, and I don't think she realized she was on pace during the event to hit that score," CSU diving coach Seth O'Dea said. "I knew how many points she needed, but she didn't, so I got to tell her. She had no idea. I think it took some pressure off her going into the finals, and maybe a bit too much. She didn't have the same energy she had in the prelims.
"That's why we come to meets like this, so they're better prepared when it matters most."
Ovesen sat third after the prelims but slipped back in the finals to take 11th overall, scoring 235.20 in the second session.
Riley Lee just missed making the finals by two places, coming in 14th in the preliminaries with a 239.20. Maggie Di Scipio finished 22nd (215.70), Jackie Oh in 23rd (213.15) and Juliana Dodd was 26th (209.05) in the 35-competitor field.
"Riley was right up there. She just missed one dive that kept her out of the finals," O'Dea said. "Same with Maggie. If she hits her first dive, she's right in there. Overall, I'm pleased."
The Rams finished the day with a team diving event, one O'Dea said they used as a dry run as it will be competed at the conference championships.
Colorado State will close out the meet Saturday with the platform, beginning at 9 a.m.
