Distance Runners Shine on Valentine's Day

FORT COLLINS - Colorado State track and field finished its 2026 indoor regular season Saturday in three different locations. Distance runners stole the show as a slew of freshman pushed into CSU's all-time record book.

Jarvis Scott Invite (Lubbock)

Makayla Long came in second place in the shot put (first among collegiate athletes) at 16.85-meters/55-feet-3.5. Following her was Klaire Kovatch who finished sixth (14.77/48-5.5).
Jamison Taylor finished third in the triple jump at a mark of 15.44/51-9. The junior sits top 30 nationally in the event and second in the conference.

Husky Classic (Seattle)

Freshman Tanner Kaufman recorded the top 800 among Rams on the day. The Colorado native ran an impressive 1:51.89 which serves as a top 20 mark all time for CSU. On the women's side,f Brooklyn Ewert ran a 2:10.86, moving to eighth place in the record book.
Standout freshman Parker Westermann nearly hit the sub-4-minute mark in the mile with a time of 4:00.28. Westermann now launches all the way to third place all time in the event and came razor close to becoming the third ever Ram to hit a sub-4 minutes indoor. Not far behind was Chris Henry who also set a PR at 4:04.48, ranking top 10 in school history.
The freshmen continued their domination with Ruby Schwelm and Tatum Berg moving into the record books for CSU in the mile. Schwelm finished at 4:44.46 and now ranks fifth all-time for Colorado State. Berg landed at 4:46.88, which puts her in seventh place in the record book. Caroline Mehlhorn (4:49.08) and Abigail Petr (4:52.28) also added PRs, finding themselves top 20 in school history in the event.

Mountain Lion Open (Colorado Springs)
Jack Wetterling took home first place in the 60 hurdles with a personal best time of 8.12. Also claiming a top spot was freshman Alora Tortorelli Cruz, who finished with a time of 7.61 in the 60 meters.

Looking Ahead
Colorado State is all set for the Indoor MW championships (Feb. 26 – 28). The three-day event will take place in Reno, Nev., where the men look to make it three straight conference championships after sweeping indoor and outdoor last season.
