Rams rally for Mountain West Indoor Championships

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field sets sail for its final Mountain West Indoor Championships. The men's side swept the indoor and outdoor editions in 2025 and look to make it three in a row. The women side strives to return to the pinnacle of the league, having claimed first in three of the last four indoor championships and finishing third in 2025.

Picking Out the Points

  • Colorado State's advantage in the conference championship comes in the form of depth. CSU runs deep in the throwing events on both sides, with five Rams ranking in the top ten in the weight throw for the men, and the women holding the top three spots. Additionally, both the men and women have four of the top ten in the shot put.
  • Men's 60 hurdles and high jump also stand as strong points, with four Rams sitting in the top ten in both events. Ndayiragije Shukurani and Owen Langdon lead these groups and sit at the top of the conference in the high jump and 60 hurdles, respectively.

Going For Gold

  • Several CSU athletes rank atop the confrence heading into the week, with many in prime positions to bring home gold. Most notably is Kajsa Borrman in the weight throw; she holds first in the conference by over two meters and is ranked 11th nationally.

  • Shukurani is another athlete who has a chance to bring home hardware, ranking first in both the triple and high jump. The vertical and horizantal jumper has a shot at being the top point earner for Colorado State, as he looks to get into a national qualifier position.

  • Hurdles are another area where CSU can claim gold, with Langdon and Neya Jamison competing on either side. Langdon leads the conference at 7.74 while Jamison leads at 8.37. Jamison claimed her first podium finish at the 2025 outdoor conference, finishing third in the 100 hurdles.

  • The men's 4x400 squad is primed for a run at the top spot. The record-breaking group set a school record at the Colorado Invitational earlier this year at a time of 3:09.01. The anchor and school record holder in the solo 400, Kenny Carpenter, has a shot to make a run at the top spot in the 400.

  • Other athletes eyeing the ultimate prize include conference leader Makayla Long in the shot put (16.85-meters/55-feet-3.5). Tyler Colwell in the 60 meters (6.73) and Jamison Taylor in the triple jump (15.81/51-10.5).

Nationals On the Horizon

  • While Colorado State is fully focused on the MW Indoor Championships, a slew of athletes have their eyes on booking a flight to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the NCAA Championships. Shukurani has a chance in both the triple and high jump, needing to clear just one more bar in the latter. Makayla Long sits right outside the top 16, in the shot put, needing to hit the 17-meter mark to make nationals. Kyle Bigley is also just outside of the qualifying range, needing to hit at least the 22-meter mark to have a shot.
