Kajsa Borrman claims gold in women's weight throw
RENO, Nev. - Colorado State track and field came into Friday's events at the Mountain West Indoor Championships needing points and qualifications for Saturday's finals and the Rams found both. CSU holds the top spot in the men's competition after two days with 50 points, while the women sit in a tie for fourth at 29.Â
Â
Borrman Legacy GrowsÂ
Despite solid performances from the field, it was Kajsa Borrman's day as she unleashed four throws over the 21-meter mark, including a personal best of 22.16-meters/72-feet-8.5. Not only did she dominate the field but also the arena, claiming a facility record in the process. Â
Â
Borrman wasn't the only one lapping the competition, but Klaire Kovatch did as well. The CSU senior hit the 20-meter mark for the first time in her career, (20.09/65-11) claiming a silver medal. Makayla Long came in fourth, capping off a huge 23-point gain for the Rams.Â
Â
Four Rams competed in the weight throw finals, including Erin Brown who fought her way out of the lower seeded flight.Â

Mateo Munoz picked up where he left off on Thursday, running 8.01 in the 60 hurdles claiming yet another event in the heptathlon. Munoz stretched his lead on NCAA number 14 ranked Landon Helms to 66 points heading into the pole vault. Â
Â
That is where the points ran dry, however, as Munoz was unable to make up the deficit despite a strong 1,000. Munoz finished with a valiant silver medal, scoring the second-best heptathlon ever (5,628) for CSU.Â
Â
Rams picked up 13 points in the heptathlon as Zach Sell claimed four points of his own with a fifth-place finish. Joe Probst skyrocketed into eighth with his second place in the 1,000 meters.Â

Men's Weight Throw Depth Dominates Â
It was a party at the throwing pit for the green and gold as CSU brought in a massive 23 points. The Rams were led by Kyle Bigley who finished second place with a monster throw of 21.67/71-1.25. Following him was Adam Hellbom who set a personal best of 20.98/68-10 claiming a bronze medal. Â
Â
Cameron Kalaf took home fourth, securing five more points for the cause. Alex Jensen and Daniel Baroumbaye added to the total, finishing in the sixth and eighth spots, respectively. Â
Taylor Claims Silver Â
Jamison Taylor has been a point-winning machine in his career for CSU, having scored in all three jumps at conference multiple times. Today was no different as the Colorado Springs native claimed his second MW conference silver medal of his career. Taylor was sitting outside of the podium before his fifth jump, in which he launched into first (7.50/24-7.25). Taylor would fault his sixth attempt and was ultimately usurped by Boise State's Raekwon Weatherspoon.Â

Not only did CSU score big on Friday, but they set themselves up for Saturday. The Rams did well in the prelims, getting 14 runners into the finals. Â
Â
The top moment came from the women's mile, where Ruby Schwelm's 4:49.32 led all entries. Following Schwelm was fellow freshman Tatum Berg finishing second place at 4:50.57. Caroline Mehlhorn also made the final with the 9th best time at 4:53.14.Â
Â
The Ram men got a plethora of athletes into their respective finals including Kenny Carpenter who ran the top 400 of the day (46.42). Travis Turner also got in on the big dance in the eighth spot with a time of 48.03.Â
Â
Colorado State got athletes into the 60-meter hurdle final on both sides. Neya Jamison will represent the women while Owen Langdon, Trenton Givens and Carsen Bruns
will represent the men. Â
Â
Tyler Colwell serves as the sole Ram in the 60 meters, while Parker Westermann will compete for the Rams in the mile. Both Tanner Kaufman and Ethan Mann will run the 800 after Kaufman ran the third fastest prelim on the day. Jaycee Williams will be the sole runner in the 800 for the women's side after Brooklyn Ewert narrowly missed on the top eight. Â
On the Horizon Â
Everything is on the table for Colorado State tomorrow as Saturday will bring final rounds for over half of all events. It all starts with men's high jump, an event in which CSU ranks 4th in the division one event squad rankings. Ndayiragije Shukurani enters as the favorite with Jesse Imemba, Rhys Travis and Hari Brogan offering support.Â
Â
Men's and women's shot-put looks to put a stamp on a dominant throwing performance, while the men's triple jump will be the final event for CSU's flight crew.  Â
Â
The action begins at 10:30 AM MT with the men's high jump, followed by the women's shot put. Â
